The battery seemed to be in VERY good condition during all of this but I placed a trickle charger on it for all of last night. When I tried it around noon to test the grounding of the Alternator, it still charged quite high. While I was preparing a jumper to go directly from the mounting bolt of the alt to the Neg post of the battery, it started to decreas and finally go down to about 1-3 amps on it's own. The response to lights being turned on and off etc. triggers current but not past 20 amps, it then subsides. When turned off and restarted, it charges high for a few moments then goes down again (as expected). I am assuming that all is well again but am not totaly convinced that the Battery was at fault or maybe the system was slightly isolated and finaly found a good ground etc. Thanks for the reply. Andy
