The grade school where I went to school reverted back to the original owner of the land. He never had an estate settled. I bought the land from his daugher and made her give me a quit claim deed for whatever rights she had to school part. I then fenced in in with the rest. Depends on what was drawn up years ago. Does it revert back to original owner or does the school district have the right to sell it and did they sell it? If like mine, it went back to the original owner---did he leave an estate?? Had a friend who bought a house, only he bought the guys estate including the house. A few years ago the railroad abandoned all its property in xxxxxxx Colorado and he got all the old right aways etc. See a lawyer
