I'm a real tightwad. Assortments seem to me to all ways be out of the size I need and have ones I never use. Goes for bolt, nails, whatever.
When I need to go to town for some thing, I buy about 3 times what I need-in that size. Maybe a few just a little longer or shorter.
After a while I build up a stock of the common used sizes.
