The computer is probably limited by its Bus speed. A P3 unit will not respond to more memory as well as a P4. The price of a P4 1.5 to 2.0 Ghz and 512mb of ram should be in the $250 range.
I would give it to my son (etc) and splurge on a improved unit. Do not accept a Celleron based unit.
AMD systems are good, as are Intel chips.
