My grandfather has a 7x14 single axle he hauls atvs on and is a song and dance on the intersate. Now he also like hauling fire wood on it and it really kicks the trucks a** not in no power but suspension wise. If you were going to ask me personally i would get a small tandom like your 7x12 and get it WITH brakes that will be well worth it cause you will have the power to pull it but not the weight to stop it also if you find your rear end sagging install some over load springs they are really nice I got them on my truck.
