rr, Fords arent my thing but anytime the ignition is on there should always be voltage on the coils input (from switch) terminal. ON the coils other (to points) terminal, the voltage should read near zero when the points are closed but near battery voltage when open. A test lamp on the side of the coil to the points should flash on (points open) and off (points closed) as the engine is cranked over. If it never flashes off the points arent closing or bad or not well grounded or the wire/circuits open from the coil to the points. John T
