You're going to have a tough time leveling your pad with just a loader. A box scraper will work much better, particularly if you have some nearby dirt to "steal". Although the crushed concrete would be excellent fill, any sandy fill will work. Don't use topsoil, because it contains stuff that will decompose. If you fill with clay, make sure you have very good drainage, and put a layer of sand or gravel over the clay. You'll need some sort of surveying instrument to monitor your progress. I used a surveyor's hand level, which are available for a few bucks at many hardware stores. Just mark two sticks at 6" increments; stick one in the ground and hold your level against the other one. A transit will work better, but you need two people to operate it. And of course a laser level is the easiest to use. Whatever you use, be sure you have the pad within a couple of inches of level, and that there is good drainage on all four sides. Fill is cheaper than concrete; the more level the pad, the less concrete you'll need. Forty yards of dirt is a lot to move with a loader or box scraper. And you'll need more fill than just what's required for the pad. Figure at least double. Have some fill brought in and save yourself a lot of time. Use a box scraper to grade and pack the fill, it will be the best $500 you ever spent.

"It's a tough little tractor, although it's a hard starter being a diesel and all." He did manage to get it running, compliments of a can of ether. Once started it putted along pretty good. It
