I've used the air method you mentioned. I put diesel/ATF in the cylinder, backed the rocker arms off to close valves and removed the oil pan. Hooked air hose to a fitting in the spark plug hole and waited for the mixture to start dripping out the bottom of engine. Good news is it worked on two cylinders, but not a third one. Onlt thing that would break it loose was probably TNT.
