Seeing he has the older 4.3 with a carb, it does have a computer, but all the computer really controls are some functions on the electronic carb, spark timing and a few other things. This truck could be made to run without the computer. If you could find a Vacuum advance HEI Distributor out of a GM 229 V6 (the Chevy 3.8 engine used in various rear wheel drive cars early to mid 80's) or find a very very rare 4.3 Vacuum advance HEI Id put it in there, and get rid of that electronic spark adavnce. You should be able to buy a new computer still, or used one should be easy to find. Good luck! Chris.
