Simple answer... If you were to look at the oscilloscope tracings of a system with the resistor in the correct location, and with the resistor incorrectly placed between the points and the coil, they would differ. The tracing of the system with the resistor between the coil and the points would look like the tracing of a system with a weak condensor. I have a distributor machine, and an ignition 'scope, so I will try this. Getting a good picture of the trace may be another matter! Guess I need a DSO!
