Budget, hp and purpose make a big difference also. If you have a budget, Allis will be your best chioce hands down and they are just as reliable as a JD as long as they were maintained well like any other tractor's condition would rely on. If they haven't been abused, Allis is the best tractor hands down unless you want to spend over 10 grand on something around 50 horses. If you need more, the newer 7000 and 8000 series can be had for not much at all and are one of the best models out there. The powershifts were very reliable, esp by the time the 8000 series came around, and the motors are great also, much more fuel efficient than a deere motor (in all applications except maybe a 2 cyl deere, they may be a little easier on fuel, but more practical??? thats up to you to see). If you have 2 specific models that you are looking at on a lot, take them out and hitch em up to something and lugg them down. That is a great way to decide. Hurst
