I would like to thank everyone for their input associatied with the posting below: "Where is the best place to purchase 16' utility trailers?"
on Thursday 6/24 at T-1013!!

I appreciated the comments on the electric brakes on one axle!!! There were some good points!! I liked the one making the point on having a flat tire on the axle with the elctric brakes and what might happen!!

But... I still have not got my question answered:
"Where is the best place to purchase 16' utility trailers?"

Would appreciate comments on the following:

1- I would like to have the web address on
laws/specifications on utility trailers for
Ohio.

2- I have found 16' tandem utility trailers with
5,000 lb couplers. When I ask the dealer why
they didn't have a coupler as large or larger
than the 7,000 lb GVW of the trailer, they
said the axles handled the largest portion of
the 7,000 lb GVW and a 5,000 lb coupler was
adequate!!

3- I asked a comparable question concerning the
hitch. A 36034 Reese Hitch witll support
Weight Carrying of 6,000 lb and 600 lb tongue
weight. It will Weight Distribute 10,000 lb
and 1,000 lb tongue weight.

I discussed with a dealer and he pointed out
he sales and uses hitches supporting 5,000 lb
Weight Carrying and 500 lb tongue weight to
pull the 7,000 lb GVW trailers and that is
not a problem because most of the 7,000 lb
is on the axles not the hitch.

He stated he had used a 5,000 lb hitch to pull
a load as much as 10,000 lb on the 7,000 GVW
trailer without any problems.

4- I also spoke with Reese Technical Support
and the manufacturer of the trailer.

Reese Tech.. Support felt this was wrong also
but didn't leave me feeling very
comfortable!!!

Speaking with the manufacturer of the trailer
they made the same point the dealer made and
got a little upset when I explained Reese
Technical Support's opinion. They said they
had manufacturerd trailers for 12 years and
knew their business and ask if Reese
manufactured trailers?

I think there was a very good comment made about laws and enforcement concerning utility trailers!!

Thanks for any and all comments!!!

Paul
