Here in the last conservative outpost in western Washington, the high school Christmas music program includes many religious carols, and the highlight (and grand finale) is the high school choir singing the Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah, joined by alumni and anyone else who can sing it. I asked the music teacher how they get away with it, and he said "We're just going to keep doing it until someone makes us stop." And so far, no one has. This in the same town that has a manger scene on the front lawn of city hall every Christmas. One of many good reasons to live here.
