I use to have a lot of back problems. Had the injections LESI which sometimes helped. Osteopathic physicial did xrays, said one leg was a little shorter than the other (OK, I"ve heard all those jokes), now I wear a pad in the heel of one shoe. No problems for almost 5 years. But, back to your question about inversion tables. They can help a lot, but don"t use one alone. I have been stuck on one, nothing wrong with the table, it just hurt so bad to come back upright that I couldn"t stand to do it.
