For what you want, a 1972 Chevy C20 would be pretty good. I still use mine. They are built strong, body and mechanical parts are still available, and you can work on them yourself. They ride nice and quiet. Get about 12 mpg. They won't drop in value either, because the collectors still like them. If you have a mind to, you can update them with later stuff. 1973 and newer are rust buckets. 71 didn't have front disc brakes, but you can retrofit them.
