2 problems with the lift. Worn follower pin under the cover will exhibit the lift only working with the draft lever depressed. Internal leak, possibly worn o rings on lift piston. Pto shaft seal leaking. Elevate rear, remove the 4 bolts shaft slips out. Don't move pto lever from neutral until replaced. This assumes you have a 851 or 861.
