If it is one of the early 55 combines the engine will be a Hercules. I think the number is QX3 maybe.This engine was used in some marine applications and some Federal or Diamond T motor trucks and one model of the Gibson tractor line. They were good engines, but really expensive to repair and were reall thirsty on gasoline. Worked for JD when they were introduced. We sold 2 and they were in use for many years.
