Go to a hardware store or plumbing shop that threads pipe. Have them make (thread) a pipe nipple about 2 to 3 inches long with one end with standard pipe threads and the other end with OVERSIZE pipe threads (most pipe dies are adjustable)- or simply cut the threads "short" so that they are oversize. . Screw the oversize threads into your port (after cleaning the port as well as you can) use a good "muffler cement" as a lubricant or as "pipe dope" at this connection. Screw a pipe coupling to the nipple and then the muffler into the coupling. If you want something that will last longer, have them make the pipe nipple from schedule 80 pipe. Good luck in your efforts.
