Hi Red, Just a habit I got into, I guess. Kind of a "head count" or "scalps" on the number of units I had walked thru. :>) Their real purpose was to lengthen the life of the filter by keeping metal away from it, but there is no possible way that the "gunk" can ever actually re-enter the system, so there was absolutely no harm done. GM puts the little guys in their rear ends also. Now those serve a real purpose as they do keep the debris out of the bearing races and so forth. Allan
