I've had the same experience with fuel leaking under the converter. On my truck it was the bottom 0-ring on the fuel filter housing where the fuel heater is. It did'nt seem to leak much but if you put your hand under it you could get diesel fuel smell on your hand. I would put a small piece of rag towards the back of the valley where the drain is and go for a ride and check to see if it is coming from the top of the engine. If it is check all connections going to the injection pump,filter and return going down towards the tank. If the valley is dry I would suspect your fuel injector return lines could be suspect!
