Case manual recommends ATF type A for the older Char-Lynn systems. I am using Dexron ATF in my '59 Case 311B last 5 years or so.

I did run the torque generator with general purpose hyd oil off the tractor hydraulics for 2 years prior to repairing the steering pump. Doesn't seem to work any different.
