That tractor came from the factory with magneto ignition. Some were converted to battery ignition by mounting a coil beside the magneto and using the points & distributor of the magneto. Sounds like what somebody may have done on yours. You can get another magneto & make it original. They used an International H-4 magneto which are readily available and quite reliable, or you can get aftermarket conversion kits made by Delco and others to do a proper battery ignition conversion. The same magneto & battery ignition componants were used on A's, B's, BN's, C',s, H's, M's and others so you should have no trouble finding parts. Just don't get a magneto from an MD, they turn backwards.
