Back in the late fifties, my wife and i were short of money, but, since i needed snow tires for the car, to get to work, she ordered snow tires from one of the department stores in Pittsburgh. So, the day they were delivered, i walked in the door and saw the snow tires setting there! Well, i inspected the tires, and when i saw the name on them, i thought to my self:" Uh,oh, we've been had!" The name on them was Abel Tire Co. I had never heard of them, but, not wanting to hurt her feelings, i said nothing! I took the tires and car to work, mounted the tires, and went home that evening. Next morning, there was 6 inches of snow on the roads, and since Pennsylvania at that time had 4 snow-plow trucks for all of western Pa., i had a chance to try out the tires. To my surprise, those tires worked better than any of the higher priced tires i had used before, and lasted much longer, too! And, we still kid each other about the "Abel Mabel Label Tires"!
