Marc I recommend that you get a 50 HP tractor preferably made in the USA or to what has become the standard type tractor used by the majority of US full time farmers. Your choice of Ford or JD is good. However, your selection of tractor should be made on condition and reliability. Price is always a consideration but should be secondary. Repair parts and lost time can be very meaningful to a partime farmer. Look for a tractor with less than 2000 hours on a working hourmeter and one where you can trace the ownership history. Once you locate a tractor repost the brand and model number and inquire as to its performance from existing or prior owners. You can obtain a consensus in this manner and it will assist you in your decision making. Lastly, if you buy from a dealer ask him if you are dissatified within a few days after trying the tractor on your place can you return the tractor. I ask this question on anything that I buy from a dealer.
