I know this isn't directly related to ethonal gas, but it is an alternitve to diesel. I know a guy that is running used french fry oil in his 2002 ford power stroke. He takes 5 gallons of french fry oil, strains it, mixes it with 5 gallons of diesel and puts it in the tank. He has put almost 10,000 miles on since starting the experiment and has NO problems.
