On your post, yes, I am biased toward inline sixes, I'll admit to some prejudice in that regard, and incidentally Isuzu makes a great six cylinder engine used by Chevy and GMC in their medium duty trucks. I have always said that durapukes and powerjokes have great numbers in HP and torque and can pull horse trailers over the Rockies with the best of them, and I never called these engines "junk" (except in joking) but they were designed primarily as light duty engines (it even says that on the emissions sticker on the engine), for trucks that get traded every three years. You don't see them in tractors, dozers, or generator sets, though. Doesnt make them bad, just lighter duty.
