IMO there is a magic bullet to curing cast iron pans.
1. Do not use oils
2. use lard or shorting on inside and out
3. preheat your oven from 375 to 400 degrees
4. place your cast iron pan in oven and bake for
1 hour, remove from oven and let it cool down
slowly.
You will be happy with final results. Very little food will stick to the pan!!! My Grandmother taught me this method 50 years ago...HTH
