I use to work for a Ford truck dealer.
A man brought in his new pickup complaining about excessive oil use.
Every mechanic in the shop had a look at it and we tried everything we could think of.
Nothing seemed to work.
Even replaced the motor with a new long block but still used a lot of oil.

They were just about to give this guy a new pickup when one guy noticed the splash guard on the inside of the valve cover was missing.
Replaced the valve cover and problem was gone.
