I guess the secret is don't get air in the gun in the first place. Since I never really mastered that this is what we did when we used to do that. We would make sure that the end of the gun was always in the grease good before pulling it in. Then when we had the gun full we took a paint stick and would stick it in the gun and shove it to the end of the gun. Then we would take it and pack the grease in a much as we could. I haven't filled a grease gun that way for some time. I have more trouble with air now when I put a new cartridge in than I did filling it out of the bucket.
