I bought an older gas JD utility tractor that had slipped into a pond while moving the bank. The owner got another tractor and quickly pulled it out and subsequently flushed the oil systems several times. It seemed to run OK, the price was reasonable and since I only intended to use it for light mowing and possibly small auger work, it was purchased. It has proven to be a complete POS. Based on this experience, I wouldn't touch one of those tractors unless it could be bought for slightly more than scrap price.
