That is a safety feature they had way back then. They just didn't run with more passengers than seats.
In all seriousness, better get it running right with the 6 volt system it came with before spending a lot on high tech "improvements" after all, the 101 Junior is not a race car.
There are so many things or combinations of things that could be wrong that you should have someone who knows engines tune it up for you.
It's pointless (pun intended) to spend a lot on kits when the engine may have some basic problem. Advance is mechanical so 12 v. will make no difference.
