PTO seal on a TO 35

I'm confused. I am trying to stop a serious fluid leak around the PTO shaft in the rear of this tractor. I took the retainer plate off and I am looking at a large round retainer with two flat sides opposing. How do I get this retainer out? What parts do I need to replace to reseal this part of the hydraulic system? I have looked high and low for a good source of explanation on this tractor and so far all I have is a very poor quality service manual and a parts manual. The explanation in that manual simply says to remove the entire shaft but it does not say how to remove it. Anyone out there have any experience with this type of tractor? Any help would be appreciated. I have ordered Dean's CD's but they have not come in yet.
