Dr. Sportster, I haven't adjusted mine yet, but here is what the manual says: A. Remove the front fender, valve caps, timing inspection plug, recoil starter (to turn the crankshaft). B. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise, until the "T" mark on the magneto flywheel align with the pointer. C. Measure the clearance of each valve between the end of the valve stem and the adjusting screw on the rocker arm with a thickness gauge. *If the valve clearance is not correct, continue with the following procedure. D. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting screw until the clearance is correct. E. Hold the adjucting screw from turning and tighten the locknut to the specified torque (104 inch-pounds). Valve Clearance: Inlet 0.15mm - 0.20mm Exhaust 0.18mm - 0.23mm Check the valve clearance only when engine is cold or cool to touch. Dr., as I stated before, I just did get the manual and have never adjusted mine (93 model). But this is from the manual verbatim. Good luck, Mike.
