: THE FORD 6000 COMMANDER WAS A TRACTOR AHEAD OF ITS TIME. IT WAS THE FIRST POWER SHIFT TRACTOR IN ITS CLASS. THIS MODEL WAS BUILT FROM 1959 TO ABOUT 1965. MY NEIGHBOR HAD A PROTO TYPE RED BELLY PRIOR TO GETTING HIS BLUE AND GREY MACHINE. THIS WAS THE LARGEST TRACTOR BUILT BY FORD UNTIL THE 8000 AND 9000 SERIES CAME OUT. I CURRENTLY HAVE A 9600 FORD AND RUNS LIKE NEW. MY NEIGHBOR HAD HIS 6000 FOR 25 YEARS.
True facts.
The engine was based on the 223/262 6 cylinder engine that was used in the cars and trucks.
They upgraded the block to a Hi/nickel alloy and added a forged steel crank shaft.
The displacement is 242 inches and witha turbo it can dyno 125 HP.
The engine can be installed in to many Ford cars and trucks. We did several of them.
The first one we did ws installed in to a 1967 Couger with a 3 speed overdrive transmission.
Top sleed was about 100 MPH and it would get 41+ mgp. with average road speed.
The car got tired at 250,000 miles and is being refreashed.
If it ws done on the Ford 6000 tractor we did it.
We have rebuilt the transmission, hyd. system, Fuel system, and even replaced the Simms pump with Rosa-Master.
We could plow with a JD 4020, A/C 190XT, IH 806,
We could out preform the by haveing the PS transmission.

Today's Featured Article - A Farmall Story - by Ed Meadors. The year was 1978. Our young family had recently moved to rural Chesapeake, Virginia to a plot of land which would finally allow us to realize our dreams of a huge garden, critters and more lawn and pasture than we would ever use! We needed a TRACTOR; not a riding mower or tractor wannabe, but a real TRACTOR. The answer to our needs materialized in the form of a '44 Farmall A, complete with cultivators, discs, single plow, a 5ft.Woods belly mower and one, mounted spare 9.00x24 rear wheel. ...
