A bigger tire is not always going to give better traction. I had some older pickups with those skinny tires and they got around far better than my newer trucks do.
As far as brands are concerned I have not had many that seemed good for all conditions.My latest truck I bought used and it has some sort of Michlen allseason on it (LTX)? not sure if thats the right letters but I can't seem to wear them out !good smooth ride on the highway. They are no good in the snow so I bought an extra set of rims and some Cooper Discoverer tires I run these in the winter they did good the first year but traction seemed to fade fast with some wear which is also fast and uneven. I won't buy another set of these.As far as traction goes I have ran some B.F.Goodrich Traction King and really like them but you will get some noise and they wear faster than some but I don't think much worse than the Coopers.So of the three I've mentioned above I'd recommend Michlen on road B.F. Goodrich off road and Cooper not at all. Every maker brings out new styles and types every year so maybe there are some real good all around tires I just haven't bought any yet.
