The reason for the difference in octane of "regular" gas is the elevation. The higher the elevation the easier the gas burns. At sea level to about 2,000' you will see 87 octane as "regular". From 2,000' to 4,000' you will see 86 octane as "regular". Above 4,000 you will see 85 octane. Occasionally you will see 85.5 and 86.5 octane gas if they are between elevations. I might not have my elevations perfect but that is basically what I see. As for the price difference between premium and regular around here the "standard" difference is 10 cents between regular and plus and then another 10 cents more for premium. If you shop around you can find some stations that have a 7 cent difference between grades. FWIW, Nathan
