You may fix quite a bit of the smoke with adjusting the carb. I would remove the spark plugs and pour some Marvels Mystery Oil down the cylinders. You could have stuck rings and this will help. You may want to do this for a few days if you can. You can have good compression rings but bad oil control rings - this would show good compression on a tester but burn oil. Make sure to spin your engine a few seconds before you put the spark plugs back in to make sure enough of the oil is out of the cylinders to prevent hydraulic lock when you try to start it.
