Yea the one I had was self locking also. I worked OK but when I sold the pickup I left it in the box. The pickup I now have has one that I made myself. My ball now screws into a nut welded on the bottom side of a sheet of steel bolted to the sides of the frame, reinforced with channel iron. Safety chains hook to iron held on by the ball. Cost ball plus $50 and time. Benfits one hole in bed.
