If possible, rent a one man Ground Hog post hole digger on wheels. IF your soil is not mostly rock, you can take one of these units with sharp blades and dig a lot more holes faster than any standard 3 point tractor. But if your soil is mostly hard dry clay, a 3 point tractor set up with hydraulic down pressure would be nice. I used both when I was a fence contractor some 25+ years ago and dug 10s of thousands of holes.
