The Farmall Regular, Farmall F-20, and Farmall F-30 all had cables on the outside of the frame that applied the brake to the wheel in a tight turn. The Farmall F-12 and F-14 had rods inside the channel iron frame rails that did the same thing. Many of these tractors were used with 2 row equipment, and planting or culivating, it was usually desirable to spin the tractor around 180 degrees, and go back to the other end with the rear wheel on one side running in the same track as the other one had ran. All of these old Farmalls had hand brakes, and usually the cultivator or planted also lifted with hand levers, so it made sense to have the brakes come on. In 39 when the letter series came out, Farmall went to foot brakes and abandoned the cables.
