Miles I got the manual from my local dealer. It was about $12. I've seen them on the internet also, but for more $$. I agree, the guys that made the thing probably know best. When I checked the lube originally, I assumed it would be gear oil. I removed the oil level plug and looked inside and could not see anything. I stuck my finger in and could feel something like grease down in the bottom. I thought I would run some diesel through to it to clean everything out. The stuff that came out of the drain hole with the diesel looked like it probably was grease. I didn't have enough gear lube so I thought I would get some the next day. I so happened my manual came in that day too. While at the farm store, I read in the manual about the grease and asked and was told to run gear lube. He also said I could run 00 grease if that would make me feel better. Never heard of 00 grease, but I looked at some and it does flow like a real heavy oil, and I have found that it is available as a lithium base. This is probably what I want to use.
