I wouldn't go against the factory lube recommendations, but I have never heard of using lithium grease in a gearbox. All the new ones recommend 80W90 GL5 gear lube. Was the consistancy of the stuff you got out of the gearbox like gun grease? Are there any drainholes for the grease on the side of the gearbox? If there aren't then it probably used a heavy grease rather than gear oil. I'd work on the dealer a little bit harder 'cuz it sounds like he's brushing you off. Good Luck.
