An Allis Chalmers WD or WD45 would be ideal for you. You should be able to find good ones starting at about $800 and running up to $1600/$1800. Wide front would be a plus if you find one. Add a 3 point conversion and you"ll have a dandy tractor that is a whole lot more capable of doing things than the little Fords and Fergies. Maybe a little harder to find but great if you could, would be an Allis CA. The Allis D-14 would be great but might run to the last few dollars of your budget. All these are very easy to work on and will hold their value, incase you want to move up to something a little bigger some day.
