Okay...here's my two cents worth! Had a '99 Dodge with the five speed. Loved the truck...hated the service! My dealer spent six weeks changing the front crank seal right during harvest. Truck was just under warranty at 49,999 miles. Then got a 2003 Power Stroke. After hydro locking the motor at 60 MPH with trailer, and after numerous trips to Ford dealers shops across the Plains to have , ummmm let's see, I think 14 injectors, the injection pump, and the turbo replaced, all within the 30,000 to 50,000 mile range, I traded for an '05 Duramax. LOVE THE DURAMAX!!! Two trucks with over 40,000 trouble free miles! Get the highest rear ratio possible and you will be happy. 16 to 21 mpg empty with the gooseneck, 11 to 13 loaded. And...I hope it don't make anybody mad...but look up "dodge" in your Webster's and see what it says. There lies your answer.
