Detroit Diesels are safe enough if you wear ear protection while in the vicinity of one running at high RPM. They are safe enough untill some dummy cleanup man starts changing governor settings. At which time all other personnel should be at least one hundred foot from said engine. And anytime the cleanup man tells you that he can turn up the RPM's on your Detroit, always ask, if he can do it using only one hand? If the answer is yes, ask which hand he will be using? Then cuff the other hand to the governor housing and leave the area.
