You have fallen into the government logic trap like many others. You basically said if we spent the money we're spending in Iraq on energy sources, we'd be better off. I'm sorry to say that such a concept is flawed. The correct policy is - If we weren't spending the money on the war in Iraq, we wouldn't spend the money at all. You have to remember, there's nothing stopping policitians from spending money on energy sources if they want. They'd just approve the sale of more government bonds. If someone really wanted to reduce our fossil-fuel consumption, just put a few hundred square miles of solar cells in the desert and desolate areas in southwest of the country. One big electric plant feeding the national grid in all different directions.
