What's Happening in my Engine ???

What can cause a flathead engine to have oily coolant, and watery oil? Obviously, the engine oil is making it's way into the cooling system and the coolant is somehow getting into the lubricating oil. Isn't it usually one way or the other but not both? Used a new head gasket, it leaked a bit externally after installation but no evidence since. Engine runs good, starts up well and runs smooth. Any suggestions?
