You're probably looking at the breather in the side of the valve cover. That's not where you pour in your oil. The oil filler is near the front of the engine on the right-hand side. There should be a pipe sticking out with a breather cap on it. Pull straight up to remove the cap. When you change your oil, you may find that the drain plug is all buggered up to the point where you can't remove it with a Crescent wrench. Check out the condition of the plug before you get started; if it looks bad, go buy another one first (from New Holland). You should be able to get the plug out with a pipe wrench unless it's in really bad shape.
