Funny you should ask. I sell appliances. Maytag owns Dixie Narco. They are the ones who makes all those soda pop vending machines you see every day in front of Wally World, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. They work in extreme conditions 12 months every year. However, up until recently, the Maytag Brand was made in the Admiral Plant, a different company than Dixie Narco. Now they are made in the Amana Plant, a much better choice in my humble opinion. To the best of my knowledge, most compressors today are piston (reciprocating) driven. The rotary (radial)design was a bad design and cost GE over 80 million bucks in recalls in the late '80's.
Me? I just replaced my 18 year old GE (piston driven) refrigerator with a new GE. My old one is still doing service in my basement when we have a get together. I like it. A lot.
