My Dad had a general repair shop for many years with a sign hanging behind the counter that read: "Credit makes enemies...Let's be friends!".
Besides that sign; when a customer came back after a job was done, his favorite line was: "Do you want to charge that, or take it with you?".
Must have worked; because when he retired, he had one bad debt on the books...less than $10, from a deceased patron.
